Shilajit Review

Authentic Shilajit is an abundant source of energy, mental clarity.

Shilajit Benefits

Shilajit boosts your energy and mental clarity, allowing you to heal faster from injury and recover quicker from workouts.

Shilajit is a natural, safe, effective product that has been used for thousands of years. It has strong antioxidant properties and promotes cellular respiration, immune system enhancement and anti-aging. It has also been taken as a safe replacement for ADHD medication, and a cure for jet lag.

My personal experience taking Shilajit has been smooth clear energy without a crash, faster recovery time after working out, no jet lag and better sleep.

Under Ayurvedic, Siberian shamanic and many Eastern healing traditions, Shilajit is considered a supreme healing substance. Traditionally, herbs are taken in tandem with genuine Shilajit. Shilajit resin has properties that help your body absorb the micro nutrients in herbal remedies increasing their potency four to five times.

Due to its rarity Shilajit is the most counterfeited supplement in the world. A prime example of this is Shilajit powder – it is overwhelmingly a fake, and has almost none of the benefits of genuine resin.

“….Silajit resin is pure and effective.”

Imitations are often sold as Shilajit capsules, Shilajit extract and various “Shilajit powders”. In almost every case these are just counterfeits made with soil extractions. At best they are cut heavily with fillers.

There are only a handful of companies in the world manufacturing high quality Shilajit and I have tried them all. Even among companies that sell Shilajit resin, most of them have run out or lost their supply of quality Shilajit resin, and have had to switch to a lower quality resin to meet growing demand.

Shilajit Side Effects?

Good quality Shilajit resin is pure. The only proven side effects related to Shilajit come from the contaminants in imitation or low quality extracts that haven’t undergone proper processing. Contaminants in these cheap imitations may include abnormally high levels of heavy metals that lead to poisoning and damage to organs.
Because of its biological nature Shilajit could in some isolated cases be contaminated with harmful bacteria like E. Coli or Staphylococcus. Which makes it important to buy a reputable and safe brand.

Genuine Shilajit resin when manufactured ethically is VERY SAFE to consume. Just be sure the merchant you purchase your Shilajit from offers a comprehensive Certificate of Analysis, and that they maintain proper documentation and labelling of batches. It is ultra-important to find a transparent and reputable supplier before you purchase Shilajit.

NOTE FROM THE BLOGGER: I personally take Altaic Shilajit on a daily basis and highly recommend this brand as the best genuine Shilajit resin available. You can purchase from their website here

Shilajit Review

When I started taking Shilajit it was in powder form. Big mistake! It tasted like cow urine and I got splitting headaches and no positive benefits. I would have given up right then and there if I hadn’t been recommended it so avidly by one of my close friends.
So instead of quitting I took to Google. Only after I dug around a bit did I uncover the truth about powders vs. the genuine resin form.

“Only two days after I began to take a genuine Shilajit resin I was… ..sleeping better, I woke up with energy and that energy carried me through the entire day….”

Armed with this new truth I bought myself a container of genuine, Premium Shilajit and after two days I was hooked. I was sleeping better, I woke up with energy that carried me through the day, I had clarity in my thoughts and motivation to complete whatever task was at hand. I could really see why there was hype around Shilajit. Heck, I was hyping it myself!

It would have stopped there but because of the sharp contrast with my first experience I decided to go further, and experiment with Shilajit resin.
Ultimately I got hooked on the manufacturer Altaic Shilajit. From the first use I could tell this is a superior Shilajit to anything I had tried on my journey previously.

I attribute this superior energy and clarity (even next to other quality resins) to the patent pending process they use to purify Altaic Shilajit below 102 degrees. By purifying at a low temperature they are able to keep the enzymes alive, washing away any impurities and maintaining the most genuine and natural state the Shilajit resin. Thanks to this patented process it’s even technically raw.

I really have taken the time to research and test all the different Shilajit brands and only a handful provide a genuine experience. One thing that I found during this process is that despite many products being sold as “Shilajit” very few are a genuine, and I have given up on finding a single quality Shilajit capsule, Shilajit powder, or Shilajit extract.

“I absolutely love Altaic Shilajit and consume it daily!”

Shilajit is awesome! This is something that I take every morning when I wake up and I, just like most people who try Shilajit, can’t live without the energy, focus and peace I enjoy when I am consuming it daily.
With the best price and superior quality it is an easy decision for most people to buy Shilajit from Altaic Shilajit.

What is Shilajit used for?

Naturopathic Medicine. Naturopathic doctors as a rule do not use pharmaceuticals, as they believe that a human body can heal itself better with natural substances. Naturopathic medicine has recently started to use Shilajit. Naturopathic doctors use it for the many benefits, efficacy and absence of side effects obtained from high-end Shilajit resin. Conventional naturopathic medicine still liberally borrows its Shilajit application from Ayurvedic and East European Traditions including Siberian Shamanism and Traditional Soviet Medicine.

“… a human body can heal itself better with natural substances.”

Naturopathic medicine emphasizes prevention of illness and maintaining optimal health through the use of therapeutic methods and substances that encourage an individuals’ inherent self-healing powers. They seek to identify and remove the underlying causes of illness rather than to merely eliminate and suppress symptoms. The practice of naturopathic medicine includes modern scientific, as well as traditional and empirical methods. Naturopathy recognizes an inherent self-healing process in people that is ordered and intelligent. Naturopathic physicians act to identify and remove obstacles to healing and recovery and to facilitate and augment this inherent self-healing process.

Naturopaths follow strict guidelines to avoid harming the patient: utilizing methods and medicinal substances which minimize the risk of harmful side effects, and using the least force necessary to diagnose and treat. They avoid whenever possible the harmful suppression of symptoms, and acknowledge, respect and work with individuals’ self-healing processes.

Shilajit and Ayurveda

Ayurveda is a traditionally established, alternative medicine system native to India. It is an ancient health practice that has many similarities to traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) including its holistic and preventative approach. As with TCM, the aim of Ayurvedic medicine is to bring the body into balance. This is achieved through dietary change, the prescription of herbal medicines along with Shilajit and the regular practice of yoga asanas and meditation.

Shilajit is inherent to Ayurveda, and is considered a supreme healing substance by a foundational text of Ayurveda: Caraka Saṃhitā. This ancient medical text, containing 120 chapters, was a guide to Ayurvedic physicians in India, Nepal, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka for approximately 2,000 years. According to Caraka Saṃhitā, there is no curable diseases which can be cured without Shilajit. Shilajit was traditionally used as a “delivery system”, amplifier, harmonizer as well as a self-standing medication in Ayurveda.

Due to the popularity of Shilajit in ancient India all the way to present times, natural reserves of this medicinal substance were almost wiped out in India. Nowadays, most imitation products posing as “Shilajit” come from areas of the ancient Gupta Empire (today India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal). The Himalayas, once rich in Shilajit bearing rocks, currently are not capable of producing enough even for the wealthy users of India.

Due to high demand over centuries, India has developed the capacity to manufacture fake Shilajit, a lot of which is being exported due to cheap manufacturing costs. The danger of such imitations has to do with the gasoline standard in India. The country still uses an obsolete leaded gasoline to fuel cars. It is very common to find abnormally high levels of lead and other environmental heavy metals in fake Shilajit.

Unadulterated Shilajit from the Altai mountains is really rare and very expensive. If one is lucky enough to get this revered substance one can truly experience what Caraka Saṃhitā meant when it described Shilajit as a supreme healing material, and an ultimate ‘Rasayana’ or rejuvenator.

Shilajit and Siberian Shamanic medicine

In Siberia, Shamans also served as physicians to local tribes. They performed not only spiritual duties but also healing ones. Being a shaman meant being a gatherer of knowledge and keeper of tradition. Northern tribes were not bound to Ahimsa (the way natives of India were), and a lot of their knowledge was gathered and tested in hunting expeditions.

They noted that wounded animals would lick a mysterious dark substance in the mountains and heal in a matter of days from severe injuries. The shamans who observed this animal practice attempted to replicate it. The results were good, but using the substance in its natural raw form was impractical.

Usually it would be mixed with debris, sand, stones and plant leftovers. Washing, sifting and drying the residual yielded dark resin that stored indefinitely, could be carried easily, and treated many common ailments. The resin became known as Mumio – a northern name for Shilajit. Mumio was used in ways almost identical to Shilajit in Siberian holistic medicine.

Unfortunately, just like Shilajit, Mumio is often counterfeited and adulterated. It is common to “stuff” Mumio with undesirable excipients, increasing the weight but actually diminishing the amount of genuine Mumio. Just as with its identical twin brother Shilajit, authentic Mumio is rare, highly desirable, and expensive.

Shilajit in traditional Soviet medicine and Indian pharmaceutical science.

Shilajit, also known as Mumio in Russian, was studied in depth in the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s in the Soviet Union and India. Universities in both countries have contributed substantial scientific resources to exploring the substance in finding ways of using it to improve human health.

Most interesting is that even though modern science established, that Shilajit is not a panacea and not a wonder drug, it turned out to be as close to that as possible.

Mineral pitch was classified as a premium natural stimulator, which normalizes homeostasis of a human organism, and beneficially effects all bodily systems. Modern medical research showed, that Mumio has an effect on regeneration of damaged tissue, neutralizes various forms of radiation, improves blood profiles in an expedited way, is a nonspecific immune stimulator, possesses antiviral properties, effectively suppresses inflammation, keeps blood sugar low, normalizes hormonal levels and is highly beneficial in rehabilitation of a human body from various stressors.

Soviet Union and India were researching mineral pitch from the 50s in the last century. As far as scientific schools the approach was slightly different. If the Soviets focused primarily on medical aspects of Shilajit research, India approached the substance more from the pharmaceutical sciences angle.

The Soviet pioneer of Mumio was Dr. Adil Shakirov who with his followers than massive clinical trials and demonstrated efficacy of the substance. His research focused on tissue regeneration, overall health supporting effect and change of blood profiles in mineral pitch consumers.
His “disciples” developed the research further in conjunction with radiation exposure, natural performance enhancement and anti-inflammatory properties. A noteworthy fact that Mumio-Shilajit was never used as a self standing drug. The Soviets influenced by the folk traditions used mineral pitch as a substance that allows the body to heal itself naturally.

Patients would normally get their conventional treatments and consumption of mineral pitch was a holistic “auxiliary”.

The renowned Indian scientist dedicated to Shilajit research was Dr. S. Ghosal. His research was more pharmaceutical sciences driven with an attempt to understand the origins of Mumio and standardization thereof. Dr. Ghosal with his associates researched Shilajit not only by itself but also in conjunction with other Ayurvedic herbs, showing how Shilajit can improve efficacy of herbal formulations.

“…..I am standing 100% behind my recommendation of Altaic Shilajit.”

The fascinating aspect is that the Soviet and the Indian science confirmed many Shilajit applications practiced by the Ayurvedic and Shamanic healers of antiquity. We encourage you to take any Shilajit powder with “a grain of salt” and read up on the Benefits of Shilajit and dangers of imitation products.

For now I am standing 100% behind my recommendation of Altaic Shilajit, but if you have any other brands that you have enjoyed feel free to comment bellow. I am always happy to review Shilajit products.

Take Your Shilajit in a Breakfast Shake

Once you have chosen a Shilajit Supplement and wish to add it into your daily regimen the question is left how to you take a powder based supplement without it tasting nasty or killing the effect.
A lot of the time I hear people adding it to orange juice. I do not like the acid profile and pure sugar nature of orange juice. It has to be cooked to be sold in stores turning it into more or less a strait sugar.
My personal favorite Shilajit recipe is a creamy banana smoothie with Shilajit powder.
I make it simple and sweet here is the recipe
• 2 Bananas pealed
• 1 Cup hemp milk
• Your daily dose of Shilajit resin
• 1 Tsp. honey
• 1 Tsp. Bee Pollen
• 1/4 Tsp. Vanilla Extract
Blend thoroughly and enjoy.
